The St. Charles Police Department maintains a proactive crime prevention program that supports citizen involvement aimed at reducing crimes of opportunity.

This is a 3-part program:

Vacation House Watch provides a watch service for an unoccupied residence when the occupants are on vacation. Come to the police station to fill out a form or bring in your downloaded, completed form to register. Vacation House Watch Form (PDF - 64k).

Timer Lite-a-Nite provides the loan of a light timer for vacant homes, giving the residence the appearance of being occupied. This program, in conjunction with the Vacation House Watch program, offers the loan of lighting timers to citizens leaving town on vacation. Stop by the front desk of the Police Department (211 N. Riverside Ave.) to sign-out up to two timers.

Engraver, Operation I.D. provides the loan of an engraver to citizens to mark their personal property with an identification number that will aid police in returning lost/stolen property. Crime Prevention’s Operation ID program provides for the loan of an engraver to resident citizens. Stop by the front desk of the Police Department (211 N. Riverside Ave.) to sign-out an engraver.

One or all of these programs may be applied for by coming to the Police Department front desk (211 N. Riverside Ave.) and filling out the appropriate forms. The front desk is open Monday through Friday, 6am to midnight, Saturdays 7am to 5pm, and closed on Sundays and holidays.
