The 1.5-million gallon Red Gate Water Tower at IL 25 and Red Gate Road that was completed October 2016 has been named “Elevated Tank of the Year” by the Steel Plate Institute/Steel Plate Fabricator Association. With help from their consulting engineer, the City selected all-welded steel construction over other materials for its winter weather durability and enhanced aesthetics. The tank design, with nearly 1.5” thick steel, had to support the 12,495,000 pounds of water when full.
Lieutenant Tony Cavallo in the St. Charles Fire Department recently was named a finalist in the 2016 American Legion Firefighter of the Year Award. Lt. Cavallo was honored at the Sept. 6, 2016, City Council Meeting.
Lt. Cavallo had to meet stringent eligibility guidelines and professional criteria to be considered for the award, which includes nominees from fire departments throughout Illinois.
The St. Charles Park District, in conjunction with the Illinois Association of Park Districts and the Illinois Park and Recreation Association, recognizes local organizations and businesses for their outstanding contributions to the advancement of parks and recreation with the annual Community Service Awards.
The City of St. Charles has been awarded a Class 1 rating for Fire Protection from the Insurance Services Office (ISO), designating St. Charles as one of only 99 cities out of 45,000 surveyed in the United States to earn the elite ISO Class 1 status.
This ranking could translate into lower fire insurance rates for St. Charles residents and businesses.
Family Circle today announced the results of its exclusive survey which named St. Charles #1 in its Annual Survey of Best Towns and Cities for families. The comprehensive survey included communities from across the country and is featured in the magazine’s August 2011 issue, which hit newsstands today.
