Update - 4/5/19

Phase 1 final engineering is underway: the City has retained HR Green, Inc. to complete final engineering design and obtain construction permits.  Improvements will include restoration of the creek to a natural state, streambank stabilization, upsizing of culverts underneath Illinois, Indiana and South Avenues, removal of a portion of S. 9th Avenue and the creation of park-like setting with naturalized plantings and a walking path.

Update - 01/23/19

At this time, the City has retained WBK Engineering of St. Charles to complete final engineering design, which will incorporate replacement of the water main and the sanitary sewer, as well as storm sewer improvements and roadway reconstruction.

In 2016, the City requested information from property owners through a questionnaire.  We will be taking the questionnaire responses into consideration to the best of our ability as we move forward.  Specifically, tree removal will be avoided where possible and sidewalk improvements will not be included.

First Street Update

Things keep moving at the First Street site. Excavation and site work are underway for the next building--Riverloft. It's a five-story building with first floor retail/restaurant use, offices on the second floor, and about 15 upper floor residential condominiums. Estimated completion is late 2019.

A riverwalk already is taking shape, and another plaza similar to the current plaza on 1st Street is planned for construction in Summer 2019. Both of these amenities will provide access for all to enjoy the river.
