Construction

Update - 01/23/19

At this time, the City has retained WBK Engineering of St. Charles to complete final engineering design, which will incorporate replacement of the water main and the sanitary sewer, as well as storm sewer improvements and roadway reconstruction.

In 2016, the City requested information from property owners through a questionnaire.  We will be taking the questionnaire responses into consideration to the best of our ability as we move forward.  Specifically, tree removal will be avoided where possible and sidewalk improvements will not be included.

Police Station Construction Update

Construction of the new St. Charles Police Station at 1515 W. Main Street is moving along, following the official groundbreaking July 23. The steel and bricks of the demolished buildings were salvaged and repurposed, finding new homes in other structures. The recent removal of the existing parking produced 2,500 cubic yards of ground asphalt lot that also will be reused as a base and backfill for underground infrastructure (electric lines, water and sewer lines) that will be installed to service the new facility.

Update - 8/21/18

The pipe installation and excavation work has been completed.  City crews will be installing the new cables and transitioning over to the new system over the next two weeks.  All field work and landscape restoration is expected to be completed within the next three weeks.

Update - 8/2/18

The City’s contractor, Archon, has started foundation work for the piers that will support the electrical bus.  That work is anticipated to take 2 weeks.  City crews will start work after that to install the aluminum structure and electrical bus.  Commissioning and in-service for the substation is anticipated to be prior to the end of the year.
